Fabulous large vase cut by J. Hoare. Hoare was one of the most innovative and oldest cutting houses of the Brilliant Period. Hoare along with Dorflinger were considered the fathers of American cut glass. Hawkes, Sinclaire, Egginton, Allen, Tuthill all evolved from Hoare cut glass. They led the way in many of the designs that dominate the brilliant style of cutting. This is a stellar example of cut glass. It is graceful in form and regal in design. It incorporates the best of both worlds: strong geometric cutting and wistful copper wheel engraving. The combination piece such as this are works of art. The vase is signed J. Hoare Corning, NY. The blank was made by Corning glass works. For years Corning produced blanks exclusively for Hoare. In later years Hoare allowed them to sell to Hawkes and others. This is a very unique blank shape. It has a faceted small knob at the bottom. The blown blank is excellent quality. It is clear and brilliant. The cutting is crisp and precise. Overall this is an excellent quality piece worthy of any top collection. I have included a photo from the Black Hoare catalog on page 152. The basic cutting outline and most of the geometric motifs aer illustrated in the page marked vase 1037 regular. Obviouosly being housed inside the Corning Glass works allowed them to request changes or different shaped blanks at will. The designs include dazzling chains of cane, nicely done larger hobstars and stacks of small hobstars, stars and crosshatching. Unique blank, cut by top cutting house, copper wheel engraving and excellent quality. This has all the bells and whistles. Don't miss this exceptional addition to your collection. The vase measures 17 inches tall and 5 inches diameter at the base . It is in excellent condition with no chips or flakes. It flouresces under blacklight indicating American Brilliant Period (1876-1916). Each winning item will be carefully packaged for safe delivery.
