This fabulous VINTAGE hammered and textured brass, bronze and agate cab Mid-Century Modernist, freeform studio artist piece is a HUGE Scandinavian Finnish Finland Bird of Hattula - looking pendant and matching handcrafted necklace. It is stunning, just fantastic. Not marked that I can find, superb quality and artistry. The chain looks very much designs I've seen by Bjorn Weckstrom for Lapponia, the design itself maybe a little Jorma Laine influence, but not being marked I can't tell for certain (INPUT APPRECIATED!) I believe that's what the design is, but if I'm off on my bird identification, please let me know! Much of the Finnish traditional designs borrow on beliefs from antiquity. In ancient times, animals were endowed with powers; Gods were thought to speak through animals. Birds were messengers of God, so the bird motif was quite common. Additionally, in Finnish jewelry tradition, birds symbolized health, wealth, and success. The design on this bird is slightly more abstract than the "normal" Bird of Hattula, which was first seen in jewelry design around 1000 A.D. - again, input would be appreciated - thanks! A great find, NO RESERVE! Shipping is $5.50 first class with mandatory insurance, $1.00 for every $100.
