"Spirit of 76" Wood Carved Relief by Erwin E. TownePresented to President Richard NixonInfo:On October 16, 1973 - Erwin E. Towne of Pekin Illinois, visited the White House to present the President of the United States, Richard Nixon, with a wood relief carving of the "Spirit of 76". Up for sale is what to be believed to be the prototype of this particular carving. The piece measures 28 inches long X 21 inches wide x 2 inches deep, carved from a single piece of wood. Signed and chiseled on the bottom is "Erwin Towne 1972". I will upload scans from "Mr. Nixon's Daily Diary" provided by the Nixon Library, which gives detail of the event. I will also provide a printed copy of the paperwork when sending the piece. Feel free to send an offer!
