ORIGINAL HUGE WWII LETTER LOT - 45TH DIVISION 179TH INFANTRY. Bought from local WWII veterans estate. Veteran was an enlisted man who served overseas with the 45th Division, 179th Inf Regt, Co.K. Approx 250+ letters including 40+ V-mails, holidays cards, postcards, military drivers permit, papers, etc. Most letters are written from the soldier to his girlfriend, some are from the girlfriend to him. Also from / to his brother who served in the same regiment. Letters are mostly from 1942-44. They cover training with the 124th Inf Regt at Fort Benning and Fort Jackson, overseas with the 179th to Africa, to Italy and the Anzio beach head. It then appears he gets trench foot and is sent to hospital and eventually sent stateside late in 44. I only read a few of the letters, they are easy to read and well written. They describe some combat at Anzio, hard living, bad feet, homesick, etc but not in too much detail - I don't think he wanted to scare his girl. I also found some snapshots of him in uniform and pictures of his girl in some of the envelopes. Letters all have envelopes, ought to make for some interesting reading! Please see my other auctions for more estate military items. Buyer Thank you and good luck!
