Large 12-Inch YellowWare Mixing Bowl with 4-Stripe Rust and White Banding
Description: This is a large and handsome 19th century yelloware mixing bowl with a warm, age-deepened mustard color and four banded lines – two in rust and two in white. The ceramic bowl measures a whopping 12 inches across at the top, 6 inches at the bottom, and a full 5 ½ inches high. It’s got a very strong classic mixing bowl form, with canted sides that taper gently from the wide top to the narrow footed base. Beautiful shape and a rich warm mustard yellow color. The white and rust stripes have some missing paint worn off in a few areas. Potteries in both England and America made these bowls in the mid to late 19th century. Overall in excellent condition. My pictures show the bowl from all sides and it is beautiful—and sturdy! Ready to show or use. It rings solid when you rap on it with your knuckles. No internal cracks and good even wear to the foot. There is use marks on the interior and crazing throughout, but of course that's to be expected of a bowl this age.The rim has the usual pitted marks, NO cracks or chips anywhere. The mustard color is uniform throughout, with a little light staining here and there coming through on the interior, and it's certainly not detracting at all. The interior is clean and in great shape – there is some minor glaze loss there, but again, not detracting or noticeable. The glaze on the banding is still strong and colors are vivid. Some minor use-wear on the rim. Bowl probably dates from the last third of the 19th century. I see no evidence of a mold, and believe that this is a hand thrown piece, but of course I can't be sure. The cost of insurance is included in the shipping charges.
