My Uncle Pete was a traveling man. Once while in Miami, Uncle Pete spent some time in a local drinking establishment w the owner had an incredible collection of Hula Dolls displayed behind the bar. It may have been the Mai-Tais or it could've been love at first sight but my Uncle Pete started his own collection of Hula Dolls that very night! Unfortunately, Uncle Pete is no longer with us, so when I recently discovered his "lovely girls" languishing in a foot locker in the attic, it seemed only right to help get them back in circulation. . . . . . Uncle Pete visited the NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR in 1964 and that's most likely w he picked up these UNIQUE little darlings: a HULA GIRL and a HULA BOY together! She, of the swiveling hips, is 5" tall. He, of the ukulele and the straw hat is 3.5" tall. Together, they share a base that is 3.75" wide. A stIcker on the bottom says "HAWAII PAVILION N.Y. WORLD'S FAIR 1964-65". The pair are offered in good condition. Her lei is fabric and her paint is perfect except for two flakes in her hair on the back. He also has a fabric lei but his nose looks like some island bully jumped him on the way to the luau! T's a flake of paint missing from his hat rim as well (see photo). Still, these figures make a perfectly charming couple and a RARE addition to ANY collection!
