HULL Little Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar with RARE double Poppy, Daisys and Violets decal. Very Good condition. with no glaze loss on colors and only faint loss of gold under her chin. Does have two chips on under side of rim where head sits on jar. Cannot be seen when it is in place, so does not detract from displayability. Marked on bottom Little Red Riding Hood Pat. Des. 135889 USA. (see pictures) Valued at over $300. in 1993 collectors book. Estimated value in 2003 can only be much higher. Search says it was manufactured in 1943 with same decal, only not double poppy. Stands over 13" high. The design patent was issued in 1943 to Louise Bauer of Zanesville Ohio. These blanks were decorated by the Regal China & Novelty Company in Chicago. Schneider, author of The Complete Cookie Jar Book, notes "No doubt many collectors have noticed the uncanny similarities between the red glaze on Hulls Little Red Riding Hood and the red glaze on Regal China's Van Tellingen Peek A Boo Baby, thats because they are the same.
