General Information on Goebel Dolls In 1950 Goebel started with the production of toys and dolls. At that time the dolls were made of two different materials, namely - completely of rubber - and with body of soft, stuffed material and rubber head. Sculptor of all the Hummel dolls was Karl Wagner . Helmut Fischer, who sculpted the M.I.Hummel porcelain dolls in 1982, was trained by him. In 1975 the toy production was ended, except for some M.I.Hummel doll models made of vinyl. The vinyl dolls were replaced in 1983/84 by a series of M.I.Hummel porcelain dolls. However, these porcelain dolls are also no longer being produced. They have been temporarily withdrawn from production in 1989. From 1995 till 2005 the firm of Engel -Puppen, Roedental, put into production again the Hummel and Charlot Byj vinyl dolls. They were made in a limited edition of 20.000 pieces each worldwide: The Hummel dolls made of porcelain were exclusively produced by Goebel for the American Mail Order House Danbury Mint between 1988 and 1994 : On each M.I.Hummel doll, on the back of the neck or on the back, M.I.Hummel, the trademark and the series number are engraved.
