This HUNTINGTON & BROAD TOP MOUNTAIN RAILROAD LANTERN is in good to excellent original condition having no breaks or damages. As you can see we haven't cleaned or worked on it at all. It is a solid lantern with only minor surface rust in a few areas. We've sold many railroad lanterns and have never had this one. We did some research and found out that the railroad was chartered in 1852 as the Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain Railroad and Coal Company. It hauled coal from the Broad Top-area north to a connection to the Pennsylvania Railroad at Huntingdon. The first trains operated between Huntingdon and Saxton in 1855. The lantern is marked on the top of the lid "STARHEAD LIGHT CO., ROCHESTER N.Y., U.S.A." and on the shoulder of the lid "H.&B.T. R.R.". The globe, which has no chips or cracks, is not marked. We tried to remove the font but we couldn't and don't want to force it. The wick adjuster works and the font looks relatively clean. A rare railroad lantern that would be a valued addition to your decor or collection. Please feel free to email any questions or for specific close-ups before bidding.
