Attention Ebay !!!!!!! This auction is for a PIECE OF WOOD, a rifle stock for an M1 Carbine, legal in California and all 50 states ! Up for auction is a Type III "LOW WOOD STOCK" for the M1 Carbine. It is marked "LW-B" for IBM in the slingwell. The Type III 4 rivet handguard is marked "W" on the underside, for Winchester. T is NO M2 cut and this IS NOT A POTBELLY STOCK, this is an original WWII Walnut stock ! Included is an original "SG",(Saginaw Gear) buttplate & screw, original barrel band retaining spring & escutcheon nut. This auction DOES NOT INCLUDE the recoil plate or recoil plate screw. This is a Walnut stock set that I have restored to a very beautiful condition. T are NO remains of a crossed cannon cartouche on the side of the stock, but t is a clear "P" proof mark on the pistol grip. T are NO REBUILD MARKS on this stock, but it was obviously rebuilt since the crossed cannon cartouche is absent. I stripped this stock, then soaked it in the bath tub for 12 hours. After drying for 24 hours, I steamed out most of the dents and scratches. I then sanded by hand in a 4 step process, 80 grit,120 grit,180 grit & 220 grit, being careful not to alter any of the contours of the stock or any areas that fit together with other parts. Look closely at the buttplate fit, I did not sand this stock to death ! I polished the stock with "OOOO" steel wool between each sanding step. Then I applied a coat of Fiebings' Dark brown dye and let it dry for 24 hours. After again polishing with "OOOO" steel wool, I repeated the process. I then applied a coat of Tung oil, letting it dry for 24 hours, and then polishing again with "OOOO" steel wool. I repeated this process three times ! Then I soaked the entire stock & handguard for an hour in Boiled Lindseed Oil, and let it drip dry for another 24 hours. I then rubbed it down with a towell, and polished one final time with "OOOO" steel wool. This is a process that will make the stock beautiful for decades to come ! This is a 60+ year old stock, it is NOT NEW ! It still has a few dings, but they give it that "Been T, Done That" look. I promise you will be happy with this stock, but alas, this is an "AS IS" auction. Check out my feedback on other stocks that I have restored, and bid with confidence ! If you live close enough, I will ship Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation at the First Class Rate. I suggest that you take the insurance. Thanks for looking, SEMPER FI !
