Extremely Rare Pair of Ross Littell PLR-1 Chairs, Circa-1968Throughout the 1940s a design team hired by the Laverne's created the bulk of the furniture that Laverne Originals sold. Erwine's "Marbalia" wall murals were a staple of the company, from 1949-55 most of the furniture, fabrics and dinnerware were the result of a collaboration between William Katavolos, Ross Littell and Douglas Kelley. The "T" chair of 1952 is one example of their successful designs. In his designs Ross Littell displayed his fascination with geometry, nature and motion. He also created innovative fabric patterns based on the rhythmic movements of arithmetic combinations. Ross Littell was born on July 14, 1924, in Los Angeles. He received a degree in industrial design from New York's Pratt Institute. and at the age of twenty-five won an award from the American Institute of Decorators for a low coffee table that he designed. As an independent designer his work caught the attention of manufacturers like Herman Miller, Knoll and ICF for whom he Worked in the 1950s and '60s. He died on April 17, 1999 in Santa Barbara, CA of he was 75. Ross Littell's most complex and elaborate furniture design was the PLR-1 chair for ICF. Designed in 1965 and only produced till 1968. The chair is designed with a heavy stainless steel frame that is polished to a mirror finish. The entire chair was created by hand, with all the unique bends, curves, invisible welds and assembly the chair ended being to costly to remain in production in the 60's market. These chairs are extremely rare in the cotton webbing version, but the leather strap webbing versions are never seen at auction or in vintage stores. This is due to the short time that the chair was produced and the extra high cost of the leather option. These chairs were part of my own collection and I have decided to let them go for the right price. If you are looking for chairs that make the Knoll Barcelona chair look like ordinary chairs, these are them. The quality and craftsman ship far exceeds the Knoll Barcelona chair in every detail. These Chairs are very heavy. Condition: Excellent, Stainless Steel Frame Flawless, Leather Strap Webbing Amazing, With No Rips, Tears or Color Loss. Photos Show It All!!! Measurements: 26" W x 28" D x 29" H and 59 lb. Shipping: Will Ship Through DHL, Cost Will Be About $50.00 Per Chair, Exact amount Will Be Determined For Purchaser. Caution: I Do Not Send Second Chance Offers On Any Of My Auctions, So Beware!
