IDENTIFIED U.S.MARINE HAND MADE KNIFE WITH SHEATH, BATTLES OF CORREGIDOR & PHILIPPINES , 1941/1945 This hand made Philippines knife with hand made copper scabbard was made & used during World War II by United States Marine Private Charles Williams who served in the 4 th Marine Regiment. He used it when he fought at the Battles of Corregidor & during the Japanese attack & occupation of the Philippines from December, 1941 to August 1942 & in the 2 nd Battles of the Philippines & of Corregidor, in 1945. The knife is 10 1/8” overall length with a 5 3/8 “single edged blade that was made from an old piece of steel, iron guard, brass flat pommel cap (it looks like it was made from a brass shell casing) & has a hand carved wood handle with a C. W. carved on the right side. There are 3 notches carved on the other side, (the family letter states that these represent the 3 Japanese soldiers that Williams killed with this knife.) The scabbard is made from thin copper, 9 7/16” long, riveted together to hold the knife in place & has a brown leather belt attachment loop. It is in good and very well used condition with light pitting on the blade & you can still see the file marks when it was hand made.
