ILLINOIS KEY WIND BATES MODEL 4oz. SILVER HUNTING CASE Circa: 1889. Scarce. Featured is the 4oz. silver hunting case. This case features plain polished original surfaces and the original massive bow guard. This Grade was named for the watch company's second president, E.N. Bates; however, it was introduced nearly two years before he became president. Just serviced, this early American Key wind pocket watch is clean, running and accurate. Especially collectible. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE. DON'T INVEST IN THE STOCK MARKET. BUY SOMETHING PROVEN IN TIME.
DIAL: Single sunken white porcelain with Roman figures and free of any hairlines, scarce original dial. This dial is signed: "ILLINOIS WATCH Co.". MOVEMENT: 18 size, key wind and key set, full plate gilt, 7 jewels, signed; "Bates", "Springfield, Ill.,", #41,810. CASE: massive coin silver stem wind key wind case with a stem wind appearing crown and bow guard. Note: Illinois Watch Co. was compelled to present their left over key wind movements in stem wind cases to satisfy the then stem wind consumer demand. Excellent case marked: "4" inside lid.
