I have been a collector of fine watches for 40 plus years & this is a first one on me. Bronze Lincoln bust, definitely connected with the history of the fabled Illinois railroad Lincoln pocket watch. It comes in a nice black leather ( leatherette ) presentation box. The inside is lined with silk & velvet. It reads: Presented by Illinois Watch Co, Springfield. This bronze medal is 76m/m (3") in diameter & 8m/m at its thickest part. It is inscribed: Lincoln, 1809 1865 with an olympic looking torch. There is a C in a circle and the inscription : Douglas Volk, Del Chas L'Hinton Sc. On the edge there are the names: Whitehead-Hoag. The back has laurels & says: Lincoln Essay Medal- Awarded to- a blank space. Apparently it was never put in service. A great memorabilia for the railroad collector & the collector of Illinois Lincoln railroad pocket watches. You won't find another!
