For your consideration is a wonderful example of one of the most sought after and famous meteorites in the world,the Imilac pallasite.This meteorite was first found in 1822 and has large lime-green olivine crystals embedded in a nickel-iron matrix.We beleive that pallasites form during the formation of a planet.The material from the molten metal core of a planet mixes with the silicate magma,and the olivine crystallizes out of the silicate as it cools.These crystals are then forced into the metal "mold" where the mass solidifies,forming a unique "pimento loaf' effect.These striking meteorites are excellent for display or for use in fine jewelry. The Imilac pallasites were found high in the Chilean Andes,one of the most remote places on Earth,in the Atacama Desert,a high,barren,dry desert - no rain,no plants,nothing but meteorites,llamas and the ESO (telescope observatories.)
