Marvelous Tea & Coffee Service 'The Diamond' by Reed & Barton Beautiful shape for being 'used' No monograms Admittedly, my tastes tend to go with fussy ornamentation that signifies the Victorian period but this Coffee and Tea service definitely got my attention. The clean, uncluttered lines and detailing demand respect. All sides are smooth and sleek, the sterling... brilliant. T is a pair of candleholders in similar styling that are being offered in another auction. They compliment this coffee service beautifully. If clean details appeal to you, please check it out. On a personal note... this service was a snap to clean and polish. T are no deep scrolls or other details that normally harbor tarnish. Reed & Barton is synonymous with quality and this service is no exception. Each piece is made of exceptionally heavy gauge sterling... the feel in the hand is of substance and strength. The huge butler tray is not original to the service and is made of silverplate... but the lines were so similar to 'The Diamond' that the pairing was almost fated. All totalled, this service weighs an impressive 2289 grams - or almost 74 ounces - and that is without the silverplate tray (also made by Reed & Barton) A popular replacement site has this identical set (minus the tray) for $4399!
