Presented at Auction is this nostalgic IMPERIAL BUTTON KNIFE from the 1950's. These knives were sold in hardware stores as well as the local sporting goods establishments even at the old time five and dime stores and gas stations. These knives were sometimes referred to as a "Dixie Switch" or a "Back Alley Special". They were sold as "Sportsman's Knives" but true Sportsmen almost never used them. They were Novelties meant to appeal to young people during a time when movies like "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Blackboard Jungle" were popular. Even though they were not the infamous Italian Stilettos of the day, they were by definition "Switchblades". For a young man to carry one of these in the 1950's was a confidence booster although this particular model of Switchblade would have been nearly useless in a street knife fight. These were novelties pure and simple....the kind that usually got confiscated by your high school teacher. This one is a typical Imperial with metal shell handles covered with imitation pearl celluloid. I am able to sell this one on eBay because the spring is broken effectively rendering it just a plain old button lock blade knife. It is in quite good condition otherwise and would be a good candidate for a fixer upper if you collect these knives. The knife is 4 ¼ inches long closed. The blade is in great shape retaining about 80% of its original finish. The button mechanism and lock work perfectly in both the open and closed positions. Want a piece of 1950's history? it is! Good luck bidding on this cool old knife and as always, thanks for looking. Kix
