This signed Imperial NuArt Stretch Carnival Glass Vase is in excellent condition. T are no chips or cracks. The base color of the glass is green. It is 7.5" tall and 3.25" in diameter. The heighth of the vase is accentuated by vertical ribs on the inside. You can see those in the picture of the base. You can also see the ground pontil denoting this glass was mold blown. Stretch glass was made usually on these simpler forms. Imperial made the glass to compete with Steuben and Tiffany Art Glass pieces during the Art Deco period. Stretch glass was made by spraying the hot glass with metallic oxides or "dope". The glass was then shaped or stretched to give it the characteristic striations, then it was re-sprayed and stretched again. Usually the process was repeated a third time. All of this handwork was expensive and the glass was never commercially successful so today it is hard to find. This bowl has a beautiful lustrous green red and blue colors that really pops. It shows off the beautiful "onionskin" or stretch finish around its entire surface and around the top inside rim. These pictures were taken inside under window and incandescent light.
