Here is a GORGEOUS antique, hand-painted Russian Lacquer Cigarette Box from Vishniakov . From O.F. Vishniakov (Fedoskino School) , this hinged box is in just amazing condition and features the a scene of a farmer/peasant couple strolling. Farmer man has a farming implement thrown over his shoulder. The detail work in this painting is unbelievable! Many of these lacquer boxes have nice paintings, but few have such wonderful patina and artistic detail! You can see all the folds of her apron, the beads of her necklace, the division of her toes, and the facial details are exquisite and expressive! She looks forlorn and he looks genuinely concerned as if he is trying to bring her spirits up! The interior of the box is lacquered in the classic red and the lid has the gold imperial warrant stamp (attributed to Vishniakov) which dates it to before the revolution, so ca. 1870s. Additionally the interior has a cloth strap on each side to hold cigarette contents in place.Dimensions: Approximately 4" x 2 1/2" (Add about 1/8" for latch) x 1". Hard to measure since has rounded corners. Condition: Just wonderful antique condition. Hinge and latch work perfectly and are nice and tight.
