Imperial Russian Enameled Silver Belt Buckle

A nice enameled silver belt buckle from Russia's Imperial era. The buckle is in the traditional two-part form and closes securely with a dagger-shaped clasp. The buckle and clasp are decorated with eight shades of enamel worked in an Art Nouveau floral pattern with twisted-wire borders. Exposed areas of silver are stippled and gilt. The buckle can be added to either a leather or fabric belt, or could be converted to wear as a brooch. The buckle is fully marked with Kokoshnik hallmarks used in Odessa, 1908-26; and with the maker's mark "GS" (transliterated). Origin: Russia, 1908-26. Condition: excellent, a very small amount of flaking in five of the smallest cloisons (mostly where the chain rubs against the clasp). Size: 2-15/16" x 2-3/16". Weight: 29.75 grams.
