IMPORTANT AUTHENTIC TANG DYNASTY CHINESE POTTERY VASE JAR WARE - MUSEUM QUALITY- Very proud to offer a Rare, Authentic Celadon jar from the Tang Dynasty Period of China, circa 9th century. Dimensions: Height : 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) Diameter: 7 1/8 inches (18.3 cm) The astounding jar, being over 1000 years old, is potted of globular body and flat unglazed base, decorated with four lugs and covered with grayish green Celadon glaze. But what makes this piece even more unique is the trace of the round potter's mark or ornament that was probably impressed or embedded on the body. Please see the picture. It is very rare that the pottery made during Tang Dynasty has a potter's mark. That mark was known to be an one character representing the potter's family name and was placed onthe upper body of the vase. This is an important piece of history as the glaze is a precursor to the later longquan, yaozhou, and ge wares and the shape is an ancestor of many pieces that would be created during the Song Dynasty Period. The body of the vessel is covered in a faint olive green that has hundreds of crackles per square inch - the beautiful sign of a truly old piece!
