Francisco “Paco” Gorospe 7/10/39 - 9/22/02 a Filipino painter, known as the “Picasso of the Philippines” Gorospe’s first major exhibition took place in 1962 at the Washington State Fair. US sales increased and his works were chosen to represent the Philippines at the New York World Fair. Other foreign exhibitions followed including Okinawa, Japan (1972), Baden-Baden, Germany (1989), Switzerland and Denmark. This abstract painting is a great example of his earlier work, measuring 24” x 24” and is still in its original frame. This painting is oil on canvas and is signed but not dated – The signature was scratched into the art, not painted on - and is believed to be an earlier piece (around 1968-1969). Since his death, his paintings have sold at Christies of London and other large auction houses around the globe. This is the perfect addition for a mid-century modern art museum collection or just a great investment piece.
