for your consideration is a beautiful, important early 1940âe(tm)s Swedish Modern Orrefors vase designed by Vicke Lindstrand and entitled âeoeNude in Snowâe. This large, heavy, thick leaded crystal vase measures 7 ½âe tall and 4 ¼âe deep. It consists of eight panels, the front decorated with the carved, frosted image. In addition, each of the four corners have small facets and these additional eight facets really help refract light beautifully. The image is of a beautiful, elongated nude female with her arms outstretched upward above her head, her hands open to catch the snowflakes that fall around her. The overall impression is a very Art Deco take on a classical form.It is signed on the bottom âeoeOrreforsâe and âeoeLindstrandâe, âeoe3216âe and three additional numbers that are hard to read.A word about Vicke Lindstrand (1904-1983): he began his career at Orrefors in 1928 and he, Edward Hald, Simon Gate and Edwin Ohrstrom are considered to be Orreforsâe(tm) top designers.Lindstrand made his debut as a glass designer at the 1930 Stockholm World Fair and immediately won international recognition for his work. He is known for his unique designs and reinterpretation of classic forms.During World War II, Orrefors could not afford to keep Lindstrand and he left and worked at Uppsala Ekeby, designing ceramics from 1943-1950. He had worked for Orrefors for about 15 years. He joined Kosta in 1950 as artistic director and was the dominant artist at the factory until he left in 1973. He worked for Kosta for 23 years. This vase was made in the early 1940âe(tm)s before Lindstand left Orrefors to begin his career designing ceramics and before his later move to Kosta.I have examined this vase carefully under a bright light. T are the typical scratches to the bottom from age wear. Thatâe(tm)s it! T are no chips, no cracks, no hairlines, no defects of any kind that I can see! (Note: this vase was very hard to photograph without getting glare from the flash, which appears in all three of the photos.) This is a wonderful vase by an important Orrefors and Kosta art glass designer and would make a great additional to a serious Orrefors, Kosta, Swedish modern or Modern art glass collection. Email me with any questions before the auction ends. Update: Thanks to some patient on-line help from a fellow ebayer (to whom I am very grateful) and more on-line research, I have determined that the last three letters on the bottom of the vase are "B7W" and am now able to add the following information: while this vase was designed by Lindstrand for Orrefors between 1928 and 1943, it was made in 1950 (B7). The final "W" in the series is the cipher for the engraver's name. (The "3216" are style numbers).
