Offered for auction is this remarkable necklace designed and crafted by the famous Taxco silver artist Sigfrido Pineda who is considered one of the finest of the Mexican Silver Masters. It is not only a stunning and beautiful piece, it is ingenious in it's design and construction with two rows of sterling silver beads that connect independently to a thick silver clasp. This allows you to create different ways to wear the piece - each strand alone, one longer or one more of a choker lenght, both strands together and a choice of wearing the decorative clasp at the front or at the back. You could also wrap the beads around your wrist to create a magnificent multi strand bracelet. The silver beads are beautifully etched to a soft finish and the clasp is set with a rare Obsidian stone that glows with the seldom seen silver shimmer (the more common Obsidian stones have a golden glow). The clasp measures 1" long and when unhooked one bead strand measures 17 1/2" and the other strand measures 14"(not including the tongue of the clasps). It is in very good vintage condition with no dents, dings or damage and the push in clasps are tight and secure. Fully hallmarked "Sigi Taxco, Sterling Hecho en Mexico" along with the design number 314 and the eagle stamp 33. An outstanding example of Sigi's fine craftsmanship and design skill and a heirloom treasure for the collector of fine vintage Mexican Silver Jewelry. Sigfrido Pineda was born in 1929 and at age 10 became and jewelers apprentice later moving on to work for three years at Los Castillo before going on to work for Margot de Taxco. In 1952 he opened his own workshop which he first called "Plateros" before changing the name to "Sigi". He considered women his most important insipration and his work has a timeless international appeal with their simple, smooth, organic shapes.
