This is the most impressive clock and shelf combination that we've ever sold. Both are solid Walnut and together make the nicest appearance imaginable!! Any home with Victorian decor will be enhanced by the quality and 'look' of this graceful matching clock and wall shelf. The New Haven Clock Company manufactured this clock around 1885. They named it the 'AMBASSADOR' which designated it as one of their 'top-of-the-line' products. The eight-day brass mechanism has been recently cleaned and adjusted for proper operation. Our clockmaker repaired the escapement so that it runs well and keeps good time. The top or 'crown' of the clock has been reinforced (behind the case) to give it stability and solid strength. The original door glass retains its reverse painted applique (see photograph). The bright area on our photograph of the door glass is a reflection of the camera flash. A fancy brass pendulum compliments the overall high quality of this fine clock (see photograph). There is an alarm mechanism in the clock. Although these alarms are rarely ever used these days, they add to the value of the clock when present. The wonderful Victorian shelf which accompanies this clock has a handsomely carved leafy medallion in the center and large drop finials on either end. It is without a doubt, the most impressive clock shelf we've ever found and even by itself, would command a substantial price in any antiques shop. Coupled with the fine clock, it makes an unbeatable combination that will attract lots of compliments from everyone who sees it in your home.
