This is an incredible museum quality 18th century or earlier antique european sterling silver high relief reposse charger. The detailed center has allegorical maidens and cherubs riding dolphins or sea serpents. The outer rim has oak leaves with acorns, shell designs, other foliate and solid roses on lattace. I have seen similar and they are French-Paris, Germany-Augsburg, Hanau, Neisse? I am not sure. It was made in pieces and the dovetail joints are visible. The center is one piece and the edge in four pieces. This is the highest quality and the supreme craftsmanship. I have had difficulty identifying the hallmarks, it is hallmarked on front edge, "crown", "assay mark"?, date or maker letter? and on the back edge, "fleur de lis" and "grape bunch"(upside down). The charger measures 23 1/4" x 19 1/4" x 1 1/2" at highest point. It weighs approx. 4 pounds and 7 ounces. It is in fine condition with no breaks or repairs or other problems. If you have information please email me. I am selling other pieces of fine English and European silver on my other auctions. Note shipping insurance is required. The reserve is set at $1150.00.
