We recently acquired an incredible old collection of native metal specimens from some of the finest historic localities in North America. These specimens came from an estate sale of a 75 year old woman in the Boise area, and were collected between about 1920 and 1960 by her late father. We will be listing these over the coming weeks and the collection includes superb specimens of copper and silver, many from localities that are not only extremely historic, but incredibly difficult to obtain today as most of the locations have been closed for decades. is an incredible specimen of native wire "HORN" silver from the historic Coeur d'Alene Mining District in Shoshone County in Northern Idaho.
Silver was discovered in the Coeur d'Alene District of Idaho in 1884 and major production began in the 1890's. Over 1.2 billion ounces of silver came out of this area of Shoshone County since 1884. During the early 1900's, Idaho and Utah were the great silver-lead producing states, accounting for over 40 percent of the country's total output during the period 1907-30, with most of Idaho's output coming from the Coeur d'Alene District. The historic mining town of Wallace (population 960) is nestled in the center of northern Idaho's beautiful Silver Valley and has long been famous as the " Silver Capital of the World ". The Coeur d'Alene District is the only location in the world that produced over a billion ounces of silver since 1884.
This fine specimen is composed primarily of silver wire crystals with a few small quartz and calcite crystals and small matrix area at the base of the specimen and nice natural patina. It measures 1.1 x 0.6 x 0.4 inches in size and comes professionally labeled and mounted in a 1.25 inch square plastic case for display. Do an internet search and see if you can find any silver specimens available from this locality, I just did with absolutely zero luck!
