I'm reluctantly offering for sale this amazing piece that I found years ago at an estate auction. This is just eye candy for any true pottery lover! I have researched this piece with no success. It appears to be American, it may be Ohio, and it's definitely vintage. I am completely unsure of it's age, but I suspect possibly the 30's or 40's. It has the feel of Mosaic Tile Company to me. It is either a Holy Water Font or a Bird Feeder, you could have used it for either I suppose. I have never used it, only displayed it and I would not recommend any use, as I believe it may be an important piece. It measures an impressive 15 inches tall, 9.25 inches wide and the font/feeder stands out 5 inches from the back. It is glazed in a rich Golden suede color. W the glaze has pooled, as you can see, it is almost an iridescent blue gray. It is flawless, no chips, cracks or damage of any kind. It's adorned with a highly detailed depiction of St. Francis feeding three birds which look like swallows. The back side of the piece is unglazed clay. It's hard to see in my photo, but the complete outline of St. Francis is easily seen as a depression around his entire body from the back, it's very interesting. it is a very heavy piece as well.
The scene is extremely peaceful and inspiring. It literally took my breath away when I saw it, and I have never seen another like it. You will not be disappointed with this lovely piece of art. It is just spectacular! I have to part with pieces I didn't think I'd ever give up in order to pay off my farm vet. One of my beloved horses became very ill. My veterinarian and I tried everything humanly possible to get him well. Ultimately he didn't make it, but the bill still must be paid! I hope whomever wins this, cherishes it as much as I have!
