This is an incredible piece, the carving is absolutely phenomenal. I cannot say for sure what the material is. It may be bone, stag, ivory, and it might be acryllic but I doubt it? But it is a beautifully and intricately carved family of quails and more! T is a crack on the lower back side that is evident in the picture. T is a separation in the top that goes around the plug that caps together with the bottom. It is not loose and does not come off, so I believe the gap is supposed to be t I can;t say much more about this piece. It is beautiful and comes from an estate of acouple who toured the Orient before World War II. I believe this piece to be very old. And see my other auctions if you collect Netsukes.
