Indian Antique Lacquered Wooden Games Box, C.1890 Indian Antique Lacquered Wooden Games Box, C.1890 This is a beautiful piece of antique Indian woodenware – it is a games box, with a lacquered exterior, and dating to around 1890. It likely originates from the province of Kashmir , known for it’s production of similar painted wooden and papier-mache objects during the Raj. The interior is lacquered entirely in black, while the exterior is painted in an extremely fine pattern of gold and red, with the monogram of the first owner in a cartouche in the centre of the lid. It is in excellent decorative condition, with relatively little wear to the lacquer or paint. Size It measures 14” (36cm) wide, 11.25” (29cm) deep, and stands 3.5” (9cm) high. C ondition Good original condition, with wear and repairs to the corners and edges – there are several repaired cracks, notably one across the top which can just be seen up close.
