This is a nice little Hopewell or Ft Ancient Paint cup from the Manchester Ohio area. This piece is in excellent condition and measures about 1 1/4" in diameter and is very thin. It has good wear around the edge of the bowl from use by the Indians. There are light mineral deposits on the inside of the bowl. This is one of the best cups I have ever owned. These artifacts are well documented and mostly found on the Ohio river sites. These artifacts are well documented in a book called "Ohio Stone Tools" by Converse, and Art Gerbers Book "A Life Time of Collecting on the Ohio River" with several found on the Crib Site. These are Naturally formed concretions that were picked up and used by Indians for war paint or grinding herbs. The darkness around the edges of the rim was caused by the Indians running their fingers around the rim from use.
