This is a beautiful example of the American Indian art pottery produced in the Ohio Valley pottery area, by the Ohio China Company of East Palestine, Ohio. The mug is done in brown, tan and yellow. The portrait is of an American Indian Chief with the full-featd war bonnet. The mug has some paint loss on a raised ring located below the portrait and above the base. The portrait is in very good condition and the colors are still bright and clear. The mug is 5 inches tall and the base is 3 7/8 inches in diameter. The mug has no cracks or chips. The bottom of the mug contains the distinctive marking, "O.C.CO. Limoges Porcelain". The Ohio China Company was only in business from 1896 to 1912, so all of their pieces are easily dated, but they are also hard to find. |
