PAIR OF US MILITARY SHOULDER BOARDS or "PADDLES", Circa 1880s-1900. Description : A pair of US military -- South Carolina National Guard shoulder "paddles". The paddles are in very good condition with gold bullion knots over black cloth (polished cotton or silk). The bullion shows some wear and is tarnished, but there is no damage or thread pulls to the material. Each paddle has the South Carolina state button attached. The buttons are post Civil War style -- Indian Wars/Span-Am War period. ( The state button probably could be switched out/replaced if desired.) Also, there is a bullion "3" on each paddle -- probably designating "third regiment". Each paddle is felt backed and has the flip-bar for attaching the insignia to the uniform shoulder. A nice, clean pair of US military/South Carolina shoulder insignia that will add interest and value to any 19th century US militaria display. Very low reserve.
