I have been intrigued, infatuated, spellbound by vintage paper ephemera for as long as I can remember, and have reluctantly agreed, (with the gentle persuasion of my better half, who claims we have become "overwhelmed, obsessed, and addicted"), to start thinning out our grand collection (as part of my "rehab", so I won't have to "quit cold turkey"). This offering is for one such lot of 8 vintage paper pieces. This grouping has an historic theme, and includes great vintage business and personal correspondence items associated with areas in Indiana, USA. Perfect for scrapbooking, altered art projects, ACEO, mixed media themes, collages, crafts, and collecting! The lot dates from 1868 to 1949, and includes the following: Tax Receipt; dated Feb 3, 1868, from Treasurer's Office, Greensburg, Decatur County, Indiana; for 1866 delinquent taxes of $6.58, which were paid by Alexander Graham, received of D & C Shaw, for NW 1/4 SW 1/4 Section 1 Town 9 Range 10, 40 acres; signed by Wm. Miller, Treasurer; measures approx 4" by 8", and in fair to good condition, very readable, with folds and starting to wear along creases, with separation at center Tax Receipt; dated April 18, 1871, from Treasurer's Office, Greensburgh (note different spelling from above), Decatur County, Indiana; in the amount of $6.85, taxes paid in full for "State, County, School, Special School, Township, Sinking Fund, Dog and Road Tax" for the year 1870, "on Poll and Personal Property, and Real Estate, to-wit: NW 1/4 SW gr. Section 1 Town 9 Range 10 (111?), 40 acres"; received of Alexander Linen, land in the name of D & C Shaw on duplicate; signed by Wm. Miller, Treasurer; measures approx 4" by 8", and in good condition, very readable, with slight age toning, wrinkling and folds Tax Receipt; dated April 16, 1877, from Treasurer's Office, Decatur County, Indiana; in the amount of $9.17, paid in full for "State, County, School, Special School, Township, and Dog Tax" for delinquent taxes 1875, "on Poll and Personal Property, and Real Estate, to-wit: NW 1/4 SW 1/4 Section 1 Town 9 Range 10, 40 acres; received of Al. Linnen (note different spelling from above); signed by Chas. Zoller, Treasurer; measures approx 4" by 8", and in good condition, very readable, with slight age toning,wrinkling and folds Tax Receipt; dated May 20, 1879, from Treasurer's Office, Decatur County, Indiana; in the amount of $10.79, paid in full for "State, County, School, Special School, Township, and Dog Tax" for delinquent taxes 1878, "on Poll(crossed out) and Personal Property, and Real Estate: NW SW Section 1 Town 9 Range 10, 40 acres; received of Alex Linnen ; signed by N.C. Stockmann, Treasurer; measures approx 4" by 8", and in good condition, very readable, with slight toning, wrinkling and folds Personal correspondence letter hand written with fountain pen, dated April 23, no year (interesting dialect, grammar, spelling, and punctuation), and signed "John Linen" Smyrna ind; letter mentions "Bill", "Charley", and "Cats", and "that feler that sandbag Bill" (found with the above Tax receipts, and is most likely from mid to late 1800's); measures approx 5" by 8"Envelope postmarked Uvalde, Texas, June 7 1884; affixed Two Cent US Postage stamp with star in circle cancellations, and hand addressed to Mr. U.G. Stewart, Danville, Indiana; contains personal correspondence letter on lined paper which has a small embossed crest in upper corner; letter is signed "JM Brooks" "JM McKinney" Uvalde, Tex.; measures approx 5" by 8"; envelope is in fair condition, letter in good condition1943 General Program from the Indiana State Teachers College Seventy-second Annual Commencement Exercises (dated May Thirtieth to June Fourth, Nineteen Hundred Forty-three), complete and intact; approx 5" by 7"1949 Program leaflet of the Eighty-third Annual Commencement Exercises of Vevay High School, May 27, 1949, Vevay Indiana; center of program has photos of each of the graduates; good condition, with age toning, folds, and wearing t... read more
