You are bidding on a INDUS VALLEY VESSAL 2800 - 1800.BC This rare vessal originates from the little known Indus Valley Culture that flourished throughout large areas of modern Afghanistan and Pakistan in the 3rd Millennium BC. Although public knowledge of this civilization is virtually non-existent in the western world, it was in fact the most expansive civilization of the Ancient World and had developed sophisticated sewer systems and architecture at a phenomenally early period in human history. We can partly explain the public ignorance surrounding this Civilization by the fact that it was only relatively recently discovered, with the first excavations of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa taking place in 1921. Secondly, owing to the fact that the Indus river was surrounded by complete desert we can understand why this civilization was never allowed to spread beyond the Indus plain. We know that the people of the Indus had a sophisticated hierarchical society with town-planning. They would have cultivated crops such as barley, cotton and sesame and were sea-faring. in a fantastic condition. complete VERRY MINOR CHIPS SEE PHOTOS.
