Mid 1800's inlaid rosewood writing box in VERY good condition. Measures approximately 12" x 9 ¾" and 4" in height at the back tapering to 2 ½" at the front. One small piece of nicely replaced veneer at the bottom back corner but given the location, size (approximately ½" x 1 ½") and the standard of the restoration it certainly does not detract. Ornate Mother of Pearl inlay + Mother of Pearl roundels + pewter bands......ALL original and complete. Unspoilt patina. Attractive grain. ALL brassware original. These slope fronted writing boxes were made in far less numbers than the more conventional rectangular style and quite often the folding front suffers a degree of distortion resulting in the lock clasp failing to lock securely. Not the case with this example, the top and slope front line up nice and square and a working key is supplied. The office section comprises of two inkwell sections, dished pen tray with storage under, wafer slope and lidded section with turned wooden knob. A replacement leather slope has been professionally fitted, the 'antiqued' maroon leather with gilt embossed tooling selected with care to complement the rosewood veneer and brassware. To complete the item a matching pair of flip top inkwells + sealing wax + ornate metal pencil with spare leads in a metal container + an old dip nib pen (maroon handle to complement the leather!!) + spare nibs are included. One GRAND looking piece. Unpacked weight 1.8Kg ANY ITEM HAVING A PACKED WEIGHT IN EXCESS OF 2 ½ Kg COULD BE SHIPPED OVERSEAS AT A CONSIDERABLE SAVING ....IN MOST CASES PACKAGES UP TO 10Kg WILL COST THE SAME AS FOR 2 1/2 Kg THUS IN EFFECT IF MORE THAN ONE ITEM IS PURCHASED POSTAGE WILL BE FREE!!!!!!!!!
