This print titled "An INLAND VIEW in ATOOI, One OF THE SANDWICH ISLANDS" , is published by Royal Authority and engraved by Alex.Hogg at the Kings Arms, No. 16 Paternoster Row. London England. Page size is 15 1/2 inches x 10 1/8 inches Plate mark size is 14 3/4 inches x 9 5/8 inches. This print was published and printed c1799. From the third Pacific Voyage of Captain Cook the drawings of John Webber were published in 1784. It is mentioned in Cooks journals the interactions of the sailors with the inhabitants of Kauai. This is after the drawings of John Webber and is most interesting as you have the alii, a pig being carried, many inhabitants, sailor getting water in a barrel and much interaction. There was so much interest in the voyage in Europe so other book makers got permission to make copies of the drawings of John Webber. To make a new print the publisher had to get a copy of the Hawksworth edition plates and hire another engraver to make a new plate to print the event. The copper plate for this print was "sculpt by J.G. Wooding". Alexander Hogg was one of these publishers. This print is printed on hand made rag fiber and when held up to the light you can see the drying rack marks on the print.
