Acherontia lachesis !!! Famous Death's Head Moth! Wynlyn Wings presents this famous Acherontia lachesis from Cameroon, Africa . Also known as the Death's Head Moth due to the Skull pattern on the thorax, the Acherontia lachesis is a member of the Sphingidae family of Moths and has generally earned a negative reputation. In history this species has often been associated with the supernatural and evil, and has been featured in art (The 'Hireling Shepard') and in the movies and Stage (The 'Silence of the Lambs' and the play version of 'Dracula'). Also numerous superstitions also claim that the Death's Head Moth brings bad luck to the house into which it flies, but since this specimen is dead already you don't have to worry about that (: As with all Saturniidae species, the Acherontia lachesis only lives for a short period of time 1-2 weeks, long enough to find a mate and continue the existence of the species. This specimen is mounted in a 5 x 6 inch Riker mount. Riker mounts can provide a flexible storage arrangement for rare or collector specimens. They are also suitable for display or educational use. Specimens can be removed from the Riker for alternate mounting or placement in larger collections. Please note that specimens used in our displays are either bred or are "end of life" specimens. This is an A1 quality specimen. Great read more
