INTELLIGENCE BULLETIN September 1942 War Department Booklet This is Volume I, Number 1 dated September 1942. This 79 page booklet was published by the Military Intelligence Service of the War Department. This is the very first issue of the many volume set that was published intermittently throughout WWII. Each volume contains the latest intelligence of the type useful to the soldier or Marine down at the company, platoon, squad, and individual level. These Intelligence Bulletins like their companion booklets, Tactical and Technical Trends , are written simply and have super-detailed combat tips for individual soldiers as well as Squads and Platoons. Both the European and Pacific Theaters are covered in each volume. This particular volume has information on German parachutists, their use of mines, booby-traps and night driving! The pictures and drawings show German Mark III and IV tanks, artillery and many drawings about booby traps. This very first issue reflects the first attempts by the U.S. at getting the latest intelligence information to the troops. This volume is not as sophisticated as the later ones. The inside-cover of the later Intelligence Bulletins bears a notice that says, "The Intelligence Bulletin is designed primarily for the use of junior officers and enlisted men. It is a vehicle for dissemination to them of the latest information received from Military Intelligence sources." The later volumes go on to tout "the widest possible use of the Intelligence Bulletin, which is designed primarily for the use of junior officers and enlisted men, each copy should be shared by a number of readers. It is recommended that the contents of the Intelligence Bulletin be used, whenever possible, as the basis for informal talks and discussions with troops." It also asks readers that if they have learned a lesson from the enemy that the War Department wants to know about it. They ask for contributions from individuals, and units as well as intelligence agencies. This first volume contains the same type of intelligence information on German and Japanese tactics and equipment important to Squads and Platoons but the inside cover shows a distribution limited to Division level. Each Intelligence Bulletin is a collection of articles that present lessons about German or Japanese tactics, techniques and equipment. SEE THE COMPLETE TABLE OF CONTENTS BELOW! I have several more of these very interesting booklets for sale as well. These are great for the serious historian who wants details you just will not find in books. This is the kind of detail you need to become a consummate living historian. Serious aficionados of US Marine Corps history will devour these books. They are also great for US and German reenactors. This INTELLIGENCE BULLETIN does not have the normal cardboard cover with a combat drawing. This has a paper cover only which I assume is due to the fact that this was the very first Intelligence Bulletin published by the Military Intelligence Service. This booklet is still stapled, complete, and intact. The staples are rusted and t is water damage to the front and back cover edges. T is a piece about 2 inches square that has been torn off the bottom of the front cover. However no information has been lost. The next two pages have some water damage. T is some edge wear, some corner chips to the back page and a lightly penciled price on the inside page. The entire booklet is legible and quite readable. If you are going to handle this booklet a lot, I would suggest making a cover for it so as not to deteriorate it more. This 79 page booklet in plenty good enough shape to be read and reread or used as a reference work. It is all t and will provide very rare information for the advanced WWII aficionado. Remember that this is the type of super-detailed information that you simply cannot find in books. If you want detail about Japanese and German tactics, weapons and equipment, this is the series of booklets you need to coll...
