I am offerin for sale A soapstone carving depicting an Inuit performing the drum dance. This is a delightful work by the well-known master carver, Appa Geeta (E7698), from the Iqaluit or Frobisher Bay community in Canada's north. He was born in 1948 and has been widely exhibited by art galleries and museums. His auction records are also well established. The carving measures 6 1/4 x 4 inches and has been executed in soapstone and antler bone. It is in excellent condition with nothing to note by way of breaks, repairs or anything else that might disappoint. It is signed on the bottom "Appa Geeta" and was bought directly from the artist by the present owner while traveling through the Frobisher Bay area in the late 70's. I should point out that the signature is faint but is undeniably present. There are no other markings or labels. This was a very common feature, especially during the earlier non-commercial period of inuit art.
