Beautiful Deschayesites Ammonite preserved with its original shell! This fascinating item is definitely among the more wonderful (if perhaps not the largest) I have been privileged to own. This ammonite is about 1.5 inches in diameter and nearly 0.5 inches thick. What it lacks in size is more than made up for by the amazing preservation... The pictures show that state of preservation which is exceptional in every way. The original shell of the animal is present and nearly 100% intact. It shimmers with an opalescent rainbow of every color of the spectrum. Depending on the light source, the shell appears blue-green to green to yellow-orange to orange with flashes of red! While I took a number of photographs to try and show this effect, none of them do it justice! The first two photos are taken indoors with flash, as is the edge shot. The last two are taken outdoors in afternoon daylight. This specimen originated in the Volga River region near Ulyanovsk, Russia. Prepared with the loving detail for which the Russians are world famous, this ammonite was fully extracted from the matrix and has been carefully cleaned. You can see to the innermost part of the central spiral! Holding this in your hand feels like you just picked it up on a Cretaceous beach. This gorgeous fossil displays very well under halogen lighting and can be a highlight read more
