In the 1977 European finals for basketball, the two last teams C.S.K.A of Moscow and Maccabi of Tel-Aviv met at Virton, Belgium on the 17th of February for the final game of the series. Maccabi took the game with a score of 91 to C.S.K.A's 79. The plan was to manufacture 10,000 silver medals and 1,000 golden ones to commemorate the victory. However, the Kremlin asked FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) to stop the manufacture, and "Not turn sports into politics". The manufacturing process stopped, and only 290 silver medals remained and 142 golden ones. All of the medals were serialized, the one for sale is with number 271. It is made of solid sterling silver (999), weighing 30 grams. Its diameter is 35 millimeters and was designed by Dan Rizinger. On the front of the medal is engraved the symbol of MAccabi Tel-Aviv, the year of the series, the names of hte two teams as well as the date and location of the game. On the back is displayed the year the game took place, "Israel" written in both english and hebrew, as well as an abstract 3-dimensional engraving of a basketball player. The medal comes with its original custom casing, with the original note and information.from my private collection( I am not a dealer)
