~FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION ~ "The Sinking of the Titanic & Great Sea Disasters: Thrilling Stories of Survivors - With Photographs and Sketches" Edited by Logan Marshall RMS Titanic hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912 and sank in the early morning hours of April 15th. More than 1500 people perished in this atlantic crossing, her maiden voyage. Within weeks, various accounts of the tragedy were being sold door-to-door, and these became known as the "instant books". They are not the highest-quality publications: inexpensive paper was used and, because of their instantaneous nature, some of the stories told have been proven to be historically incorrect. Nevertheless, many of these narratives are still available in modern paperback reprint form. As is the usual case with these instant books, the reader is promised "an account of the most awful marine disaster in history, constructed from... those on board who survived..." in all it's lurid detail.The book being sold here is an original hardback from 1912: exactly 100-years of age. It is a great read. All pages are intact, the picture of the Titanic on the cover is present and visible; the lettering and mustard-color of the book is bright on both the cover and spine, which seems solid.
