A superior quality piece, finely sculpted early to mid 20th c. polychrome decorated terracotta Madonna & Child by master sculptor Prof. E . Pattarino. The large 20" alter piece depicting the seated virgin with child in her lap, her hand delicately holding a gold and jeweled scepter, the infant holding a jeweled sp Incredibly detailed and ornately decorated, absolutely one of the very finest Pattarino figural groups we have ever seen! This polychrome decorated Italian madonna/child sculpture was produced and is fully signed by the famous 20th century ceramicist Eugenio Pattarino (1885-1971) whos works were originaly given by the Vatican as gifts to famous visitors such as President JFK and others including Andre Gide, Sarte and Edith Piaf, just to name a few of the more famous who collected his work. Many Prof. Pattarinos that made their way to the US were brought in by wealthy American tourists or purchased for churches who bought them in Florence. One such church piece is a large 8 foot Madonna by Pattarino is located in the Lady of Angel Cathedral in Los Angeles. Pattarinos sculptures were offered from a small studio in Florence on the shoulder of the river Arno, however several years ago it was completely destroyed when washed away in a sudden flood along with almost all original records, sculptures and molds. Pattarinos sculptures have and will only continue to become rarer and rarer.
