This Auction is for this Beautiful Vintage J. RUSSELL & CO. 1834 GREEN RIVER WORKS 3 Piece Carving Set. The Stag Horn Handles are nicely carved with Alligator or crocodile on them. One of the green eyes is missing on the fork. The resting arm of the fork has a Pat.Jul.13.80 May.29.83 marked on it. The knife blade measures about 9", total length is 15 1/2". The knife is marked with the usual J. Russell 1834 mark, but is also marked Brown and Hirth, Pittsburgh. As best I can tell Brown and Hirth were an early american (around 1885) firearms and gun makers in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I believe these were presented as a gift to them. The case is the original and is rapidly deteriorating, t is a little piece of red ribbon marked W.B. Brown. The bands around each piece have several different picture on them. I have not attempted to clean this set, I leave that for you. T area a few rust spots and t Overall this is a Beautiful set and would make a nice addition to anyone's collection. I am no expert, and try to give accurate information and description. If you have info on anything I list, I would never feel insulted if you passed it on to me. I am forever researching and learning. Please ask questions before bidding. Thank you for looking and good luck!** Look at my other auctions as I will be listing another wonderful Russell breakfast set with almost identical handles.
