This walking stick was owned and used by Jack London. This is authenticated with a photograph of the cane, on the back of which is inscribed in handwriting by London's grandnephew J. Milo Shepard, that it was Jack London's personal possession. It is cut from from a Madron tree. It is 32” long, approximately 1” diameter the whole length, though thickening slightly toward the lower end. It is rough and obviously home-made, with two knots and five natural shallow fissures. It weighs 15 ounces. Its photograph is inscribed on the back by Mr. Shepard, "This picture of a Madron wood cane belonged to Jack London. I gave the cane to Dr. Donald Webb in the late 1980's on one of his visits to the Jack London Ranch (signed) J Milo Shapard Jack London Ranch Glen Ellen, Ca Feb 24, 2004
