WHAT A LOVELY HIGH QUALITY LATE VICTORIAN GOBLET! Here we have a quite splendid solid silver London made cup/goblet of most pleasing and impressive form. This lovely piece was assayed in London,1900 by high quality makers George Jackson and David Fullerton.Year letter e.Their mark can be found in Jackson's pocket edition page 57. For reference cup is 8.75 inches in height and 4 inches in diameter,it is thus of a very good size. A stunning and sturdy goblet,its weight is a very good 278 grams (8.94 troy ounces). The condition is very good indeed bar it has a tiny ding on one side which is easily rectified.Clearly it has been very well looked after and only used on special occasions. It was literally black when i got it and i have cleaned it up as best i can. It is decorated with fern and foliage throughout and on one side the cartouche is blank and on the other it is engraved with a most enchanting contemporary inscription and always has been: WORKSOP LABOURERS FRIEND SOCIETY Given by DICKSON BROWN & TAIT MANCHESTER For the best field of clovers & grasses grown from seeds supplied by them AWARDED TO MR J BEARD THE MILL WORKSOP 29th OCTOBER 1901 It sits on a circular base and is supported by a knop stem on a spreading foot. Mr Beard must have been very proud to receive such a wondrous object and i love it. ALL IN ALL A QUITE LOVELY HEAVY LARGE ANTIQUE CUP OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. PERFECT FOR USE ALL YEAR ROUND. Would make a super present too. Would cost an obscene amount in a good retail outlet-if you could find one quite so nice... Goblets like this are hard to find nowadays as most have been scrapped due to the sky high price of the metal. Very functional,desireable and well worth a bid.
