GORGEOUS TENNESSEE CHERRYWOOD "JACKSON PRESS" of the ANDREW JACKSON ERA This large, HANDMADE cabinet divides into two pieces, whose measurements are: BOTTOM--shelf unit, center-closing doors, large drawer: 38" high, 46" wide, 19.5" deep TOP--three shelves, two doors w/ 12 panes of original glass, capital: 40" high, 41" wide, 12" deep (w/o capital) 14.5" deep (w/ capital) (Capital can be seen in pics 5 and 6.) ---for an overall height of 78", width of 46" These pieces are favored in established historical houses all over the South in general, and Tennessee in particular. This one was purchased by my family in 1947 on a furniture/trousseau-buying trip of my parents, which took them to points along the Cumberland Mountains, Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. HISTORY: This Jackson Press is pristine in its original finish, and although of an unknown but considerable age, it appears in a wonderful state of preservation. One modification was made--the removal of the 4" feet from the base--in the 1970s. The purist can easily make a restoration here, as no internal work is required, merely an outside, four-point application. But in consideration of this alteration, the price has been lowered on this fine piece. PICTURES NOT SHOWN: Room does not permit showing pictures of the handwork on the back-boards. They are hand-hewn, straight, and as marvelous a touch of craftsmanship as the rest of the item. DELIVERY: The item is marked "free shipping," but in fact it will be necessary for the buyer to arrange and pay for the packing and shipment of this item. (The seller will cooperate in all ways to help with this process.) The indicated weight and size of packing is not necessarily accurate; this will be determined at time of crating/moving. (NOTE: An "end-load" with a commercial moving van service is an ideal, and economical, means of shipment!) Prospective buyers are encouraged to "make an offer." The Seller is highly motivated to sell ! This fine Jackson Press is currently in use in a home in Grass Valley, California, approximately 60 miles from Sacramento. It has been priced to accommodate the necessity of the buyer's involvement in shipment.
