Beautiful old bonsai jade tree with carved hard-stone leaves and mother-of-pearl flower blossoms, in excellent condition. Limbs wired and whipped with green silk and emerging from a hard ceramic trunk, opalescent mother-of-pearl (abalone or nacre) flower petals with pink carved stone centers. Leaves also carved and of green marbled stone, possibly bowenite. Rectangular planter also made of a hard green stone similar to bowenite, decorated with a 'mulch' of white marble chips. The workmanship, both in time and skill, that went into this astonishing ornament is breathtaking, and of course the artistry of the finished result, after what must have been days of work, is equally delightful. It is instantly pleasing wherever it is displayed and will give years of marveling and pleasure. This auction closes on Friday evening (US Eastern time). Marks: Planter is marked on the base with a single character mark in a rectanglar seal inscribed into the stone. Date: Second quarter 20th C. Condition: Excellent. No losses or damage to any of the leaves or petals. Clean, shiny and well-cared for. Size: The jade tree is just short of 8 inches (18.5 cm) tall and has a spread of 11 inches (29 cm).
