Description James Monroe peace medal and presentation colar - The medal is 3" across, and appears to be bronze or brass.The medal says "James Monroe President of the U.S.A. A.D. 1817Below the bust t is a signature that looks to read: FURST.F. The makers or designers mark.The back has two hands clasping with a tomahawk and a peace pipe it says 'Peace and Friendship'The sash is about 50" Inches around not including the drop, this is an outside measurement.Peace medals were given to tribal elders and Chiefs and Leaders at treaty signings and other events between the U.S. Government and the Indian Nations.The Presentation Color is heavily embroidered with gold military braid and French Felted, the inside colar says; 'The Henderson Ames Co. Military and Society Goods, Kalamazoo, Mich'T is wear on the colar the medal has scratches and wear also.This would look excellent encased in glass a very nice presentation piece.
